Color Schemes Made Simple
Are you a tech person with undeveloped visual skills? Girlfriend insists on dressing you for social events? Websites are cool except for that... oh, "creative" color scheme? Fret no more. There is an easy online color scheme generator by the fab folks from WellStyled at: http://wellstyled.com/tools/colorscheme2/index-en.html.
It's easy. Just click on the color wheel to select your main color (maybe the color you will have as your <Body bgcolor="#______"> color. Then you can chose the 5 standard color schemes: Mono, Contrast, Triad, Tetrad and Analogic.
Here I've chosen Orange and Mono and Analogic to get two very different feels.
Color Scheme: Monochromatic

Color Scheme: Analogic

Can you "feel" the difference between the two color schemes? The Monochromatic color scheme is classier and good for a store or professional organization. The Analogic scheme is more fun and a membership organization trying to look warm and fun might well prefer this.
What if you are really into color and want more schemes than just these five? What if you want to ability to chose just 3 colors or 5 or 6 colors? You can purchase software that lets you do these more advanced things. There are lots out there, the only one I've used and liked is ColorImpact. Use the free trial to see if you like it.
Tip:
WellStyled.com has cool articles for webmasters. For example see this article on how to make a 2-column CSS layout where if the height of their content differs, their backgrounds flow and end at the same position.
