Sinikithemba: "We Bring Hope"

Sinikathemba

Sinikithemba is a South African youth choir whose name means "We Bring Hope" in Zulu. While the members of Sinikithemba (sin-i-kuh-them-buh) seem like the happy, energetic members of any youth choir, they have a difference too: they are all HIV positive.

Their choir is a project of McCord Hospital where they get their protease inhibitors, other HIV medications and primary health care. In fact, proceeds from their singing and jewelry-making are integral for paying for their medications and treatment.

Sinikithemba

The Sinikithemba youth sing their praises from a grateful place -- most HIV positive people in South Africa do not yet have access to protease inhibitors yet. Their joyful songs are literally for being alive -- and for the love of their community in a country where harassment and killing of HIV positive people is still a common occurance.
