Smile!

Why do I do web work? Sure, I love to geek out and the wonderfully interactive communication nature of the web. But, mostly it's because God gave me this gift and it is my ministry. My favorite singer is Mavis Staples. Mavis' church has an IT Ministry that sums it up this way:

1 Corinthians 12: 4-7
4. There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit gives them.
5) There are different ways of serving, but the same Lord is served.
6) There are different abilities to perform service, but the same God gives ability to all for their particular service.
7) The Spirit’s presence is shown in some way in each person for the good of all.

I hope these tutorials help you to use your gifts -- and share them -- BUILD the capacity, skills and self-determination of people-- not just make money off of "serving them." And, yeah, I hope you get PAID from profit-oriented businesses, while providing fabulous design, function & usability -- I'm working on some web businesses with friends and will provide updates here!

Penguins

March of the PenguinsSometimes life gets stressful. This page has stuff that might help. The funniest stuff I've seen on the web all week has been on this site for the movie March of the Penguins. What makes it so funny? The baby penguins are unbelievably cute (to see short videos click the link "Kid's Arcade." The narrative by Morgan Freeman is over-the-top serious. The editting and music are perfectly timed.

March of the Penguins has nothing on New York City! We have the cutest penguins in the world at the NY Aquarium. Two of the penguins there, a same sex, long-term couple Wendell & Cass, have their own advice column and promise to answer all your penguin and relationship questions!

Faith & Difference

Sir Jonathan Sacks, chief rabbi of the British Commonwealth, has written ... “Those who are confident of their faith are not threatened but enlarged by the different faiths of others. ... There are, surely, many ways of arriving at this generosity of spirit and each faith may need to find its own.” To build a future better than our past, we need, as Rabbi Sacks has put it, “the confidence to recognize the irreducible, glorious dignity of difference.”
-Thomas Cahill, 12-25-06, New York Times, writing about the early 13th-century friar Francis of Assisi and his promotion of Christian-Muslim dialogue and anti-Crusades work.
